I was recently approached by a young screenwriter who was excited about finishing his very first screenplay, his *dream story* that he’s hoping will become a trilogy.
But it’s almost impossible to sell a big-budget tent-pole movie idea from an unknown writer that isn’t based on an existing IP. So he’d begun to wonder if it might make more sense to pursue publication as a novel.
I counseled him, at no cost, with what I know about screenwriting as a sold and optioned screenwriter, and what I know about publishing as an independently published novelist and ghostwriter.
And I outlined what I’d be able to do for him in either scenario.
He decided he wanted his story told as a novel, and commissioned me to adapt his screenplay for him.
So now I’m ghostwriting his epic fantasy story, filled with magic and intrigue and battles and… well, you get the idea.
First, we’re “breaking the story” to clarify the rules of his universe, his characters’ goals and motivations, and any themes he’s trying to convey.
Very excited to be able to help this writer get his story into the world in the way he wants, and hopefully pass along some skills he can apply to future projects.
