Let me start by saying that On The Fringe is the kind of story I like. I like Good Will Hunting, Everything is Illuminated and Breaking Away… small town stories, complex characters, and universal interpersonal themes that we can all relate to. And at its core, that’s what On The Fringe is about.
It’s also the kind of story that too few indie filmmakers attempt, at least at the microbudget level. It has no zombies in it. It has no blood. It has no guns. Things I never thought I’d be shooting… I got hired to produce and direct a video on Infant Potty Training. Never saw that coming…
We shot it out in one 5 hour shoot just yesterday. Our available stage was already built out with a very industrial set used for shooting exercise videos. What we wanted was a warm, cozy living room feel. But we had no time or budget for moving or adding walls, so I went with a floating vignette. It worked pretty well, though it has kind of a “talk show” feeling to it. Since it’s instructional in nature, that kind of worked for us.

I seem to be falling into this “kids show” sort of groove. Sure isn’t happening by design. I better finish my horror script before it’s too late!
The film I worked on last year (Jeeze, 18 months ago now) as Art Director will be on Showtime in April – and then run on their various channels for the next year. It hits the DVD stores in June (Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy) and they’re working on foreign distribution right now with a broker in L.A..
